Course Description

Serving as the culmination of one-dimensional mathematics, Algebra II expands foundational algebraic concepts to model, define, and interpret the natural world. Students will progress from linear systems to multi-variable equations, radical and polynomial functions, and transcendental concepts like natural logarithms and irrational numbers. Emphasizing inductive logic and analytical reasoning, the course frames algebraic manipulation as a rigorous problem-solving method while highlighting the historical discoveries that link mathematics to physical reality. To sharpen mental acuity and conceptual understanding, students perform exact calculations by hand—learning to justify every step—before leveraging graphing technology as a tool for deeper exploration. Upon successful completion of the dual credit course, students earn both high school mathematics credit and transferable college credit (often equivalent to College Algebra / MATH 1314 or Intermediate Algebra depending on the partner institution).
