AP Chemistry
Course Description
AP Chemistry is an introductory, college-level chemistry course designed to build a deep, conceptual understanding of atomic structure, chemical reactivity, and quantitative chemical analysis through inquiry-based lab investigations. Equivalent to a two-semester general chemistry sequence for science majors, the curriculum centers on core concepts including atomic structure, chemical bonding, intermolecular forces, chemical reactions, kinetics, thermodynamics, and equilibrium. Students develop advanced problem-solving skills by designing experiments, analyzing data sets, applying mathematical representations, and constructing evidence-based explanations for chemical phenomena. Hands-on laboratory work comprises at least 25% of instructional time, giving students direct experience with laboratory safety, quantitative measurement, and scientific reporting.
