Course Description

This dual-credit history course provides an intensive college-level study of modern and contemporary Western civilization, tracing the political, economic, cultural, and social forces that have shaped the globalized world from the mid-20th century to the present day. Building on earlier periods of modern history, the curriculum focuses on the aftermath of World War II, the geopolitical dynamics of the Cold War, decolonization, the collapse of Soviet communism, and the development of the European Union. Students explore contemporary issues such as globalization, technological shifts, changing social movements, and modern geopolitical conflicts. Through close analysis of primary documents, historical historiography, and research-based writing, students refine their ability to evaluate complex historical cause-and-effect relationships and construct evidence-based arguments. Upon successful completion, students earn required high school social studies credit and transferable college history credit.
